Creation of my placemat.
I started off by designing a very simple placemat, I didn't want to make this placemat very detailed because it needs to be suitable for children.
I started to design around some reference images that I found off the internet. One of the characters that I drew was a cartoon Fish. I used the Brush tool to draw the lines, I used the shift key with the brush tool to create very straight lines to help make a much smooth drawing.

Using the reference images made drawing much easier. I drew a Fish, Pizza Slice, Bottle and Burger.
The next thing I did was add a piece of text in the middle saying DOODLE MAT, I wanted this to be outlined and have a cartoon and funky feel to it. So I used the font 'Repetition DEMO Regular' and in layer options I made the 'Colour Overlay' white and created a stroke around the text.
Because the Fish is the main character in this placemat and Hastings is by the beach I wanted to add something that would make this placemat more like it is from the seaside. So I decided to create an Anchor and a Rope coming down from the top of the placemat.
I used another reference image to outline the anchor for the placemat.

The last thing I did to complete this image was add a rope coming down from the top of the placement, going through the text and coming down through the hole and wrapping around the anchor.
This was very simple to make, I just used the mask tool, created the line I wanted with the mask tool and turned it into a stroke path. I then erased the parts of the rope that would appear behind the text or the anchor to give it that 3D look like its going through the text and the anchor.
