Research.
After going through all of the short films, I decided to do my poster on "2+2=5". The reason I chose this film is because the meaning in this film is very strong and a lot easier to understand compared to some of the other films. First thing I did for research was look at normal Movie posters, not animated.
What I found with most posters is they put the image in the centre, that is the first thing people see when they loo at a Movie Poster. After seeing the image in the centre you then read the title of the film, this is the next largest thing shown in the poster. After the title its either the date of release or its the text at the top, the text at the top either has a quote or it tells you who is in the movie/directed the movie. Usually if it is someone famous they will display it at the top of the poster. Last thing that people see is the credits at the bottom, this is the long piece of text at the bottom, this usually shows the Actors, Directors, Producers and other people who helped make this film.
When I create my own poster I will try and focus on the layout and composition, this is very important because if I don't get this correct it may not attract an audience to look at my poster. Reasons these posters above are successful is because of the layout and composition.
When seeing the still Movie Posters I thought animated movie posters would be very similar except the image itself would be moving.

After looking through these animated movie posters I found that they are very different to the still movie posters, not just because they have a moving image but the layout is also completely different. As you can see above the title isn't at the bottom as much and sometimes it is displayed bigger than the image. When looking at a few animated posters my focus was on the text first, but that also depended on how much of the image was moving. If the animated had a lot more movement and action then it seemed to have stood out more than the text. What I like about these GIF's / Animated Movie Posters, is that they are very quick and simple, there isn't too much going on in the poster and if there was, that may have made people lose focus on the title.
The 'Looper' Poster was a little different to the other posters because it animated the title a little bit. I think the reason these posters only animate the image and not the title is because you want the title to be still and stand out the most. I want to experiment though and create 2 posters, one with the title animated and one with the background animated and the title still.

Proper gander posters.
The meaning of 2+2=5 is very strong, it implies that if a leader says that such and such is true or if something in the past didn't happen then people will have to then think that way. Even if they know its not true they are forced to follow what the leader says, if not it could lead to death. It is a very scary meaning because if 7 million people think that 2+2=5 then you will slowly come convinced that its true because so many more people are against the truth.
The reason I started to look at Proper Gander Posters is because they have a very strong meaning and they are strong in what they say, they convince others to do certain things because it aims mostly at the reader.

Most Proper Gander Posters are based around World War 2, the reason they were based around ww2 was because thats when the country needed their people the most. They needed the men to fight and they needed the women to help with food and farming and such. These posters are aimed towards you and aim to convince you and make you feel like you are the one they need. The short film 2+2=5 is based around the World War 2 Era as well, in the film the 3 kids walking in wear red arm bands very similar to what the Nazi's wore. Also the boy got shot because he didn't follow orders / rules, if you didn't follow orders back then, you would have been shot.
After looking through Proper Gander Posters I will now aim to create a poster that tries to show the meaning of the statement "2+2=5". I will try and make the meaning stand out a lot in the poster by using strong images. I was planning on using blood and a chalkboard or a notebook, to show that even though its a school full of kids there can still be death and murder.

I wanted to create a poster similar to the first few seconds of the film, where the title of the film is slowly written out in chalk. But I want to implement blood in the poster some how, maybe it slowly running down the poster, or the blood dripping down and turning into a '5'. I will start to come up with ideas on how I want this poster to be animated.
At the bottom of the poster I will have the credits and release date which won't be animated, I will also have at the top of the poster about the film being nominated. e.g "Nominated As Best Short Film 2012" that will also be still and not animated.
I don't want to give away too much of the film in the poster though, if I add a dead child or something that shows the child dying then it could be a bit too much of a give away. I need to show that there is violence and the meaning of 2+2=5 means death if you don't follow orders, but I need to do so without giving away the storyline. I could add the red arm bands into the poster to show that it is based around what the Nazi's were like.
I was thinking something very similar to the scene at 5:04 in the film where the blood is splattered onto the maths equation 2+2=4.

SIMPLE MOVIE POSTERS.
I was looking at Movie Posters and I saw a lot of Movie Posters that were very simple, with one background colour and one image in the centre of the page. I wanted to create a very simple poster for the short film, maybe with a piece of chalk in the middle maybe rolling away with blood as a trail instead of a shadow. Reason I wanted to create a simple poster is because it catches your eye a lot more than the more detailed posters because there is just one thing you have to look at.
Another thing I like about these posters is that it doesn't have a lot of the credits in the posters, it either has no credits or it has very simple credits like just the Director. When I create my poster I will do it very similar to the Jurassic Park poster where the artist put just the title and the directors name.
